Perempuan kelahiran 6 mei 197 ini mulai mendapat pengakuan media lewat perannya sebagai Eun-Suh muda di serial drama Autumn in My Heart (2000). Karirnya di dunia entertainment semakin cemerlang saat Geun Young ikut bermain dalam film horor A Tale of Two Sisters (2003) yang disutradarai oleh Kim Ji-woon. Dan pada tahun 2008, ia menjadi penerima termuda dari Grand Prize (Daesang) berkat drama Painter of the Wind.
